Description
Outstanding historical pair of Honor Goblets to two members of the crew in the aircraft where famous German pilot Werner Molders was killed in 1941. Both goblets are early silver examples. The first was awarded to Oberfeldwebel Gerhard Hobbie 17th August 1941 and the other was awarded to Oberfeldwebel Arthur Tenz also awarded on 17th August 1941. Both goblets have silver marks to the bottom and ‘Joh. Wagner & Sohn’ makers marks. The example awarded Tenz has a nice patina, the other has been slightly cleaned but still very good overall condition. Oberfeldwebel Hobbie was the flight engineer on He 111 of Kampfgeschwader 27, flying from the Crimea to Germany, the pilot had to make an emergency / crash landing near Breslau, Hobbie was killed in this crash, Oberfeldwebel Tenz was also part of this crew as the radio operator, survived the crash sustaining a broken ankle. Passenger on board the aircraft was the famous flying ace Werner Molders, who was flying back to attend the funeral of Ernst Udet, Molders was killed in the crash, he was originally buried in Breslau before being moved to Berlin. Hobbie was also awarded the Spanish Cross in Gold, armed forces 4 year long service medal, EK2 and EK1. Tenz we have been unable to find out any additional information. Very interesting pair of goblets.
