Description
One of the most iconic items from the Third Reich era is the eagle banner top which adorned the Deutschland Erwache banners which were famously carried by the SS and SA troopers at the various early NSDAP party rallies in the 1930’s and were so symbolic with the Third Reich. This example remains in generally very good condition with much of the original gilt finish remaining to the eagle and to the ribbons on the silvered wreath. The large center swastika retains much of its original finish with just some wear to mostly the reverse side. The lower section having the engraved date ‘1923’ and the reverse has the makers mark for ‘OTTO GAHR’. Generally a good example of very desirable item of Third Reich memorabilia. These banners and banner tops were prized possessions for the allied soldiers who were in Europe in 1945, many sympathizers to the regime defended these items to the death and destroyed many before they could fall into the enemy hands, so to find originals now are extremely rare.
